Does it need freezing, water, or plugging in?
None of those. FrostBed cools through the ice-silk fibre itself. Take it out of the box, put it down, and it works. It resets on its own within minutes of your pet getting up, so there is nothing to recharge and nothing to refill.
Is it safe if my pet chews it?
This is the main reason we don't use gel. There is no gel, no liquid and no chemical filling inside FrostBed, so there is nothing that can leak or be swallowed. The fabric is non-toxic and non-irritating. That said, if your dog is a determined chewer, supervise them the way you would with any bed.
What are the two sides for?
The ice-silk side is the cooling side, and it goes face up. The reverse is breathable non-slip mesh, which grips car seats, crate floors and hardwood so the mat stays put instead of sliding around underneath them. Most people leave the silk side up all summer and flip it for travel.
Will my cat actually use it?
Cats are pickier than dogs, so give it a few days. Put it where they already choose to sleep in summer, the windowsill or the bathroom floor or the bathtub, rather than where you would like them to sleep. Most cats claim it once they have sat on it once.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then hang dry or tumble dry on low. Skip the fabric softener, as it coats the fibre and blunts the cooling. It dries quickly, so it can go back down the same day.
